The journey begins with a scenic drive from Guwahati to Bhalukpong, followed by visits to orchid centres and natural attractions en route to Dirang. From Dirang, travel across the magnificent Sela Pass to Tawang, exploring Tawang Monastery, Jaswant Garh, Nuranang Falls, Tawang War Memorial, and other cultural landmarks. A full-day excursion to Bum La Pass, Sangetsar Lake (Madhuri Lake), PTSO Lake, and Y Junction offers an unforgettable high-altitude experience, subject to weather and permit conditions.
The return journey passes through Bomdila, offering more panoramic Himalayan views, before returning to Guwahati. The final day includes time to explore Kamakhya Temple, Umananda Temple, and local markets, depending on the departure schedule. This itinerary combines mountain scenery, Buddhist heritage, wildlife and orchids, local culture, historic war sites, and high-altitude experiences for a well-rounded Arunachal Pradesh adventure.
Itinerary
Arrive at Guwahati Airport / Railway Station, where you will be greeted by a santos.travel representative. Begin your scenic drive towards Bhalukpong, the gateway to Arunachal Pradesh. En route, enjoy picturesque views of lush tea gardens, dense forests, and the beautiful Jia Bharali River.
Upon arrival in Bhalukpong, complete the Inner Line Permit (ILP) formalities, if not arranged in advance. Spend the evening relaxing and enjoying the peaceful riverside surroundings.

After breakfast, begin your scenic drive towards Dirang, a picturesque Himalayan valley known for its lush landscapes, mountain views, and peaceful surroundings. The journey takes you through dense forests, cascading waterfalls, winding mountain roads, and beautiful river valleys, offering plenty of opportunities to admire the natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh.
En route, visit the Tippi Orchid Research Centre, home to a fascinating collection of orchids native to the Eastern Himalayas. Continue to the Sessa Orchid Sanctuary viewpoint for beautiful views of the surrounding forested mountains. You may also visit the Nag Temple and the Kiwi Gardens (seasonal), offering a glimpse into the local culture and agriculture.
Upon arrival in Dirang, explore the tranquil Dirang Monastery, an important Buddhist centre in the valley, followed by Dirang Dzong, an ancient fort reflecting the region’s rich history and traditional architecture. If time permits, visit the Dirang Hot Water Spring, a natural thermal spring surrounded by scenic mountain landscapes.

After an early breakfast, begin your scenic journey towards Tawang, travelling through some of the most spectacular landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh. The route takes you across the majestic Sela Pass, located at an altitude of approximately 13,700 ft, with breathtaking views of snow-covered mountains and high-altitude valleys.
En route, visit the serene Sela Lake, a stunning high-altitude lake surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, followed by the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. Continue towards Jung Waterfall (Nuranang Falls), one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most spectacular waterfalls, cascading through the rugged Himalayan landscape.
Continue your journey to Tawang and arrive by evening. Check into your hotel and relax after the scenic mountain drive.

After breakfast, spend the day exploring the spiritual, cultural, and historical highlights of Tawang, a beautiful Himalayan town renowned for its Buddhist heritage and spectacular mountain surroundings.
Begin with a visit to Tawang Monastery, one of the largest and most important Buddhist monasteries in India, offering panoramic views of the valley. Continue to the Tawang War Memorial, built in honour of the brave soldiers who lost their lives during the 1962 Indo-China War. Visit the impressive Giant Buddha Statue, followed by Urgelling Monastery, traditionally regarded as the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama.
Later, explore the Craft Centre, where you can discover traditional local handicrafts and weaving, and stroll through the local market to experience the town’s everyday culture and pick up local souvenirs.
Spend the evening at leisure, relaxing and enjoying the peaceful Himalayan atmosphere.

After breakfast, embark on an exciting full-day excursion from Tawang towards the high-altitude landscapes near the India–China border. Subject to weather conditions and permit availability, travel through rugged mountain terrain and visit some of the region’s most spectacular lakes and viewpoints.
Visit Bum La Pass, located along the India–China border, followed by Sangetsar Lake (Madhuri Lake), a stunning high-altitude lake surrounded by dramatic mountains. Continue to PTSO Lake and Y Junction, enjoying panoramic views of the remote Himalayan landscape along the way. The route also offers several high-altitude military viewpoints, providing a glimpse into the strategic importance of this region.
Return to Tawang by evening and relax after an unforgettable day in the high Himalayas.

Note: A separate permit is required for Bum La Pass, and the excursion must be undertaken in a local registered vehicle. Applicable permit and vehicle charges are payable directly.
After breakfast, bid farewell to Tawang and begin your scenic drive towards Bomdila, passing through the magnificent landscapes of the Eastern Himalayas. Enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, deep valleys, winding mountain roads, and cascading waterfalls along the way.
As you make your way back, revisit the scenic surroundings of Sela Pass and Jaswant Garh, with opportunities to pause and admire the spectacular mountain vistas. Continue through the beautiful valleys and stop at local waterfalls along the route, depending on road and weather conditions.
Upon arrival in Bomdila, check into your hotel and relax. If time permits, explore Bomdila Monastery, visit the local market, and experience the region’s apple orchards (seasonal).

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and begin your scenic drive back to Guwahati. Travel through the beautiful landscapes of Assam, with views of lush valleys, verdant tea gardens, forests, and meandering rivers along the way.
Upon arrival in Guwahati by evening, check into your hotel and relax. If time permits, enjoy a peaceful visit to the Brahmaputra Riverfront, offering beautiful views of the mighty river. You may also visit Umananda Temple, subject to ferry timings, or explore the local markets for some last-minute shopping and souvenirs.

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and spend your remaining time exploring the highlights of Guwahati, depending on your departure schedule. Visit the revered Kamakhya Temple, one of Assam’s most important pilgrimage sites, followed by Umananda Temple, a serene island temple located on the Brahmaputra River.
If time permits, visit the Assam State Museum to discover the region’s rich cultural heritage and history. You may also explore Fancy Bazaar, one of Guwahati’s popular shopping areas, for local products and souvenirs.
Later, proceed to Guwahati Airport (GAU) / Railway Station for your onward journey, carrying with you wonderful memories of your Arunachal Pradesh and Assam adventure.
