The site is also famous for its ancient frescoes of celestial maidens, considered one of the finest surviving examples of Sinhala secular art.

Continue to the sacred Shankari Temple, one of the 18 Shakti Peethas (Ashta Dasha Shakti Peethas) dedicated to Goddess Shakti. It is believed to be part of the divine circuit mentioned in the hymn composed by Adi Shankaracharya, highlighting its deep spiritual significance as “Shankari Devi in Lanka”.

Continue your visit to the sacred Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple, believed to be the place where Lord Hanuman searched for Goddess Sita during the Ramayana era. Built by the Chinmaya Mission of Sri Lanka, this temple attracts thousands of devotees every year and holds deep spiritual significance.

Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya, enjoy an evening city tour of this beautiful hill station.

Visit the sacred Seetha Amman Temple, believed to be the site where Goddess Sita was kept during her captivity by King Ravana, as per Ramayana legend.

Visit Fort, the former British administrative and military center, followed by Sea Street (Pettah), known as the traditional goldsmith’s quarter located in the heart of the busy bazaar district. Explore the lively market area, where you will also find a beautifully carved Hindu Temple and the historic Dutch Church of Wolfendhal, dating back to 1749.

Continue to important landmarks such as the Dawatagaha Mosque, the former Eye Hospital, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), the replica of the Avukana Buddha Statue, and the iconic Independence Square.

Later, visit the sacred Anjaneyar Temple, the first Panchamuga (Five-Faced) Hanuman Temple in Sri Lanka and the only temple in the world featuring a chariot dedicated to Lord Anjaneyar.

Also visit the revered Kelaniya Temple, believed to be closely connected to the Ramayana era. According to legend, after the death of King Ravana, Vibeeshana was crowned King of Lanka by Lakshmana at Kelaniya. The temple walls depict murals illustrating this sacred event, and the nearby Kelani River is also mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana, with Vibeeshana’s palace believed to have stood along its banks.
